Otoplasty

What is otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the ears. It is also recommended for individuals with prominent ears (commonly known as “bat ears”).

Who is this indicated for?

It is recommended for people who have asymmetry in the shape of their ears, both in size and angle, or have congenital malformations and post-traumatic deformities. In some cases, the malformations can even affect the functioning of the ears, which capture and amplify sound.

How is otoplasty performed?

Otoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation, and it is done through an incision in the back of the ear.

The procedure takes about one hour and the patient is usually can go home on the same day.

Benefits of the procedure

Otoplasty allows the patient to feel better about themselves by correcting imperfections in the ear, contributing to an increase in their self-esteem.

F.A.Q.

As it is a minimally invasive surgery, the post-operative period is usually smooth. The patient should keep the head wrapped in bandages for 24 hours and use mesh bandages for 30 days. It is important to follow all the recommendations provided by your surgeon.
