Breast Reduction

What is breast reduction?

Breast reduction surgery is a procedure aimed at reducing the size and volume of the breasts while improving their appearance, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Who is this indicated for?

It is recommended for women who experience back, neck, and knee pain due to the weight of their breasts.

Women who are unhappy with the size of their breasts for aesthetic reasons or other concerns can also undergo this procedure.

How is breast reduction performed?

Before the procedure, blood tests, mammography and breast ultrasound should be performed to ensure that the patient is suitable.

In the 30 days leading up to the procedure, the patient should refrain from smoking any type of cigarettes. In the days close to the surgery, the use of medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatories, and others that may increase bleeding during the procedure should be avoided.

The procedure involves small incisions in the breasts to remove fat, tissue, and skin. Then, the breast is repositioned, and the size of the areola is reduced. Finally, the incisions are closed.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2 to 3 hours. The patient is usually discharged within 24 hours, but it may be earlier.

Benefits of the procedure

Breast reduction surgery reduces problems caused by the weight of the breasts, such as back pain, and also brings aesthetic benefits in relation to the rest of the body.

F.A.Q.

Breast reduction surgery, in general, can be performed 2 years after the first menstruation, when the breasts are fully developed. However, in most cases, we wait between 16 and 18 years to perform the surgery.
The postoperative period takes about 15 days to a month.
The patient should wear a surgical bra for one month, avoid moving their arms (even for driving) for 30 days, refrain from engaging in heavy physical exercises for 2 months (such as sports and weightlifting), sleep only on their back for 15 days, and take painkillers as prescribed. Please follow all the recommendations of your surgeon.
